Weekend Coffee Share, Tough as Nails?

Good morning, and welcome to my Weekend Coffee Share, hosted by Natalie at https://natalietheexplorer.home.blog/2022/11/11/bay-of-fundy-5-historic-sites/ My beverage of choice today was a blend of chocolate -flavored mushroom coffee called Mojo. I got a free sample pack online.

So, yeah, I tried something new for my health. Low on caffeine and high on an adaptogenic herbal blend but tasting like chocolate, this is supposed to be the answer. Well, I can’t say much for it’s effects on my energy level. Of course, this is the first time trying it. :)I will admit, it produces less jitters than real coffee.

Need..more.. sunlight!

This past week, we had a level 1 hurricane come through Florida to the west of us. Bixby was not happy with the wind and rain. He did, however, bravely walk out in the rain once to relieve himself. We didn’t really have a rough time, but Bixby didn’t like the loud, howling wind. Nor did I! It kept me up one night as it battered against the back gate, like a monster trying to get in.

The next night, the wind was much more quiet. However, I woke in the middle of the night to a strange sound. Was it an alien? I saw that Bixby was on the bed. Was he choking? Was he about to throw up? The dog hadn’t moved. He was breathing steadily. I heard it again! He was sleeping so soundly, I thought he might have let out some gas, but there was no smell. (Dogs do that, you know). He kept sleeping unbothered.

I realized it was his stomach grumbling. Poor fellow hadn’t gone outside that day except the one time to pee in the rain. He also had not eaten all day, either because he was so spooked by the wind or he was determined to avoid a potty break in the rain again. That tummy of his was complaining chaotically! Bixby slept through it, unfazed.

That stubborn dog is, at once, tough as nails and frightened by the rain. At least he can sleep through the tummy rumbles! Sadly, though, he probably had to do that often when he was a stray.

Such was the worst the storm held for us here in my house. There was flooding in our downtown area. They had cancelled the Veterans day parade days before for the sake of safety. The storm is now gone. I caught up on my sleep last night, and Bixby heartily enjoyed his dinner last night, even after I’d given him bits of my apple!

I followed the extra day off and the storm watch with a massage yesterday and another night of peaceful sleep! Have a great weekend, everyone!

Weekend Coffee Share, This Week I…

Spent a lot of time with my dog. I was home from Wednesday on, preparing for a hurricane.

Made it through the wind and rain unscathed. Only my neighbor’s mango tree was struck down, but they revived it and tied it in place securely.

Celebrated my son at One Night Taco Stand with some excellent pork tacos and a skinny margarita during hurricane prep day. He completed orientation for a new job last week and seems to love it!

Started up PT again for my shoulder. I went back to the location by my job, and I’m feeling optimistic about it.

Walked my dog in the wind and rain several times. I got pretty bored, and he had to do his thing, so hey, we both got some exercise too!

Shaking off the rain!

Suffered pain in my arm and hand. The shoulder bugs me at certain times, but today, the hand and arm were constant. I DON’T KNOW WHY. I’m getting tired of tests, x-rays, MRIs. Ice distracts me from the sensation, so there’s that.

Sat in the sun during breakfast this morning, and later in the afternoon. It felt so GOOD after days of just gray skies. My drink this morning was chai tea with almond milk. I do hope you’re having a great weekend, and I’m sorry I didn’t make it to the chat during coffee hour this morning. Thanks for stopping by!

Weekend Coffee Share. Back to Normal, My Version of it!

Welcome to my Weekend Coffee Share, hosted by Allison at http://eclecticali.wordpress.com

Our area was spared of the wrath of Hurricane Dorian, but sadly, the Bahamas was hurt. I spent a terribly exorbitant amount of time watching Netflix (The Walking Dead and Money Heist) and eating things I don’t normally let myself eat. The brookie, for example, was my best and most decadent find, a cookie baked into a brownie that sat by the checkout at a convenience store my son and I went to on a bored, stir crazy soda run. I shudder now to think of how that took me beyond my carb and sugar limit. Carpe diem, they say. 🙂 School was cancelled for three days, and my son’s job for two of them. We somehow survived with comfort eating and Netflix binges. I’ll own up to it.

I’ve been doing more edits in conjunction with my producer on my audiobook for Detours in Time. Soon, it will be released! I work on the Malachi manuscript when I get time. It is going to be strange, as it is 99% character study that ties in to my sci-fi series, but it will only have hints at some sci-fi goings on. The character is however, going through a very interesting time of his young life. Still, what the heck am I doing? I think it’s what the character wants me to do, therefore, it’s what I want to do! Life is short, and I have the ideas coming to me daily for the sci-fi followup; think of it as a younger generation Detours in Time, and yes, it is part of that series. Think of Star Trek, the Next Generation. I can only hope my strategy could be compared to such a giant…

On the writing front, I’ve been polishing some stories I’ve written over the last 3 years, two that had been entered into story-to-screen contests. I sent one of them off to a short story contest. The other, I’m considering converting from script to a story. I am trying to keep my eyes open for anthologies where they might fit, some are sci-fi, and some are supernatural/paranormal. Let me know if you hear of any anthologies taking submissions! I also wrote a poem titled “Psychedelic” this week in response to a one word prompt. It is about someone who had a very cool grandma. I didn’t know my grandma that well, so this is all imagination. Please view it here: “Psychedelic,” a Poem

The selfie is included because I just had my hair done today and I feel great about it. She styles it better than I ever could, as I normally don’t have patience for the hair dryer. There is a lot to be said for smiles! Smiling makes the bags under my eyes almost invisible. So, I thought I’d share. I will be getting new author photos done soon, since I hope to be publishing Malachi in March or April. That is, if my nerves don’t get to me, as in, how dare I depart from my sci-fi ways? How dare I place the focus squarely on one character and his struggles….I don’t know. I think I’ll get my nerve back. Not doing so will only lead to inaction, which I cannot stand; it interfered with my writing for too many years! Here’s to action, my friends, and forging onward!

Thanks for stopping by as I drank my cold coffee. At 97 degrees, it seemed called for. Have a great week!

Weekend Coffee Share. Keep Your Family Safe.

Come on real quick,  Come on outside,                                                                                          Just sit and breathe with me                                                                                                         There’s a beautiful breeze that I hear in the trees                                                                  Before it rains,  come see!

A week ago, my dog beckoned me to go out in the yard. Now, we prepare for Hurricane Dorian, and I think about all the dogs that get left behind when families must evacuate.  Please, check a list for pet-friendly shelters or hotels!  They are family.  Here is a list for my fellow Floridians:

Before yesterday’s rains.

Bixby can smell something in the air….

While I could go on and on about my son’s new job (Hooray)! Or, my job and the fever I had this week due to rampant middle school germs, or the progress with my authorship, I am weighed down with thoughts of preparing for the hurricane and will have to finish out our coffee chat quickly.  You see, I live in Northeast Florida, and we may not get the worst of the storm, but it is predicted to be a level 2 when it hits us.  I pray for those in South Florida.

My drink today is a V8, trying to stay healthy today, but I’ll still likely need a nap later!  At any rate, I should get a chance for writing and more reading if the weather keeps me sequestered this Labor Day weekend.  I’m not sure what I will find to watch on Netflix, since I just finished the second season of Mindhunter which has started in me a Forensics/ Behavioral Science interest.  When the lights go out, I will read by candlelight!  Forge onward!  I hope you all have a great weekend, and if you are in the Southeast, I pray that you and your family, including any furbabies, stay safe and calm during the impending hurricane.  God bless!
