“Billy, that’s it!” Roma pointed. “They said she’s a famous author. She’s been staying here three months.”
“Can’t be that famous. Why isn’t she at the Hilton?”
Freshman in college, they both felt wise to the ways of the world.
“What’s that whispering?” A middle aged woman with wild hair came out.
“Mrs. Frederici? There’s a bonfire. You should come.”
The woman smiled appreciatively, grabbing a walking stick. “No one ever asked before. I’ll go. I only get one good hour of writing a day. Arthritic hands.”
Roma asked, “Could you tell a story?”
Mrs. Frederici winked. “I’d love to.”

Yeah, the cliff-hanger was inevitable, though I do think Billy and Roma will resurface in future stories. (This is their second adventure in my land of fiction :))
P.S. It took me all week to devise this story. I’ve been quite unfocused, but I am so grateful that Billy and Roma came to my rescue. Characters do that, you know.
A famous author, in a tent, no need for coffee shops when there’s logs. Loved the can only write for an hour a day due to sore hands. Oh if only that were true. Quite enjoyed the dry humour in this!

I fear growing old and physically incapable. If your hands don’t allow you to write but your mind still makes stories, you must let them out somehow. May we all be so blessed to find people who will sit and listen….. 🙂

Definitely. Once a storyteller always a storyteller. Some even say born a storyteller….

I’m thinking I need to change it to “arthritic hands.”

Of course, I am not famous. Don’t you love fiction!

I do. Fiction where you can fabricate truths (lie) to reveal hidden truths. Or something like that. 😎

I’ll bet she has some great stories to tell. Glad she found someone to listen.

When you cannot write them down, you give the tale by word of mouth. That’s how the old ones did it! Well done!

Thanks, Miles! If society degenerates, we will likely return to this tradition!

I enjoyed your story— refreshing to see teens with an interest in what old folks have to say. 😉
You don’t have to fix her arthritic hands, just get her some voice-recognition software. We writers never had it so good.😄

I loved this. Why wouldn’t a famous author hide in plain sight! How lucky for them she is more than willing to share the bonfire and a story or two!
